Thank you for your interest in the 2021 TKK Benefit Ride on Saturday, May 15th at Trailhead Church (615 W Harden St., Graham, NC 27253)! This benefit will raise funds for the Tara Kahanek Kanady Scholarship Foundation which was created by the family of the late Tara Kanady, NP, to provide scholarship opportunities to local college students who are pursuing degrees in nursing, medical, dental and other human services. Our community needs nurses and their colleagues now more than ever, but many who have the dream of pursuing these noble professions find that finances are standing in their way. Help us make these worthy dreams come true, while supporting the health of our local community! Here are some ways that you can participate.
In August 2020, Tara Kanady went home to be with our Father in heaven after the bravest of battles with breast cancer. She loved Jesus, her four children and family, Trailhead Church, and her patients and students. She had a servant’s heart in all aspects of her life.
In 2000, as a single mother, Tara decided to chase her dream of helping others by pursuing a career in nursing. She started her education at Alamance Community College (ACC), enrolling in emergency medical technician (EMT) and nursing technician (NT) classes so she could work as an EMT/NT at the Moses Cone Hospital emergency department. She worked there while continuing to study nursing at ACC. After graduating, she worked for two years as a nurse before she was accepted to the nurse practitioner program at UNC Chapel Hill. Although she was a cardiac nurse practitioner at heart, her most recent career change led her back to ACC as an instructor in the nursing school. Tara had a passion for healthcare, and she loved being a part of training the next generation of nurses. She was also a passionate supporter of fire services and law enforcement, having worked closely with many in both professions.
That’s why her family has decided to honor her memory by starting a scholarship fund to support students pursuing nursing, medical, dental, and human services degrees at ACC. We know there are many others in our community who, like Tara, have a dream to help others and the passion to work through any challenges to get there. We believe these scholarships will give those courageous servants the support they need to make the dream a reality, and bring deserving, passionate healthcare workers into a field that desperately needs more of them. Thank you so much for supporting the cause and feel free to contact us with any questions.
